Verona, sent 1500-tal.

WORLD PREMIERE CAST
Gothenburg Opera Dance Company, Oct 29 – Dec 15 2022
“In Mikael Karlsson’s music, tempo and pulse rest with quiet confidence, anchoring a drama that unfolds in a bygone age yet feels menacingly of our own time. Between ‘a love marked for death’ and ‘the madness of parenthood,’ saxophones drive their rhythm like trumpet blasts against the walls of Jericho. A composer long associated with contemporary dance and soon to premiere his first opera, Karlsson unites grand, sweeping gestures with finely wrought detail — all shaped by an unfailing instinct for theatrical dynamism.” – Expressen (Margareta Sörenson)
“It is intimate, physical — both of the past and of the present — and it continues to surge in the gut long after the final note. Round and round it whirls, in the dance of love, violence, and madness.” – Aftonbladet (Amelie Björck)
“Mari Carrasco’s choreography is pure magic.” – Sydsvenskan (Marie Pettersson)
I haven’t had time to mix this music for an album, but it’s coming. /Mika
