“Frailty of Man” is a two hours long choreographed visual artwork by Alexander Ekman. A light, sound, video- and music experience in which you sit, stand or walk around in whilst five actors perform choreographed, directed situations. The work was created specifically for Artipelag’s 1200 sqm Artbox. The open room allowed the possibility to see the work from several different perspectives.
What happens when crisis and threat become an accepted truth in a society? How much do we stand up for what we think and believe in such a situation? The work Frailty of Man wants to remind us that you always have empowerment.
The work is about power. How man uses power in different contexts and how powerlessness may arise in a group.

“Mikael Karlsson, who has created the music for almost all of Ekman’s choreographies, has once again built great swathes of sound, close to the domain of film music – large-scale, that too.” … “With Vanmakt at Artipelag, Ekman takes a significant step forward by creating a spatially choreographed visual artwork in which the spectators are involved in the action.” Danstidningen
“Vanmakt shows that accessible does not have to mean lightweight.” Dagens Nyheter
“Vanmakt is one of the year’s indisputably strongest works of performance art.” … “It is a work that scrutinises the audience: who do I become in a world where evil lays claim to power?” … “With the Holocaust as its sounding-board and in interaction with the space, the question becomes physically tangible.” Vi

I am not sure that this music will be released as an album. I don’t think it necessarily works well in that format. /Mika
